A little about me

I write funny, thoughtful and sometimes true books for children. When I’m not writing, I help others find their writing voice.

Working with students, whether as an English teacher, coach, mentor, or parent is my favorite way to connect. My love of sharing stories brought me to Hamline University, where I completed my MFA in writing for children in 2019. I’ve been working as a high school composition teacher since COVID and spend summer and fall working with seniors on college essay writing.  My writing connections, through SCBWI, long-standing critique groups, and the Courage to Create community help me grow as a writer and editor of picture books and novels.

I live with my husband and three sons who never fight, eat only leafy green vegetables, and love picking up dog poop. (Sometimes I write what I wish were true). Other times, I write what I know is true, in the simplest terms possible. If you see me off trail hunting berries, don’t worry.  I know which ones are poisonous and always pick enough huckleberries and thimbleberries to share. I’ll be the one belting out showtunes.
